Obviously some thought will be more than worth your time, and will help guarantee you end up with the right stopwatch.
Stopwatches and Their Capabilities
Mechanical stopwatches are the more classic kind, and operate with the minutes and hours hands that are familiar to us all. Although they tend to not be as precise as digital stopwatches, and considerable more prone to damage due to their intricate gears, they can commonly count as low as fifths of seconds. Mechanical stopwatches have the added drawback of not being able to store times in their memory.
Digital stopwatches compensate for the shortcomings of the mechanical cousins. They can be ultra-precise, dividing seconds by many orders of ten, and offer water-resistant, durable casings. They have the added benefit of being programmable for pacing applications, can store hundreds of split or lap times, and even interface with a personal computer given the right model.
